Top tips to end the next financial year on a high!

As we wind down on another the financial year, it's a good time to sit and have a thorough look at your business, reflect on your performance and set some goals for the next 12 months to come. 

Back to basics…

As a starting point, look at the big picture and take it right back to the basics. What was the reason you got into business in the first place and has any part of this changed over the last year? Then start on a mind map. What are your goals and aspirations and where do you see your business in another 12 months time?

Once you have re-established why your business exists and what value you are providing, it’s easier to understand where to invest your time and money.

The next step is to take a deep dive into your offerings and where you are placed in the market as well as your pricing structure. Have a good look at your competitors and try to analyse where their strengths and weaknesses lie and reassess your ‘ideal’ customer. This will help reveal opportunities such as new markets you could be entering or alternative customer bases you should be targeting. 

Support 

Do you have the right support in place? Outline the skills both yourself and/or your current team have. Can this skill set complete the tasks required to help the business reach its goals? You might find there are some areas in your structure that can’t be filled by your current team and upskilling and training isn't possible. This is a great opportunity to either look at hiring a new team member or outsourcing to a professional. 

Next look at what resources you need to support the goals of your business. Are there better technologies you could be using or is it time to offload some of those relentless tasks you do yourself? If you’re entering a new market or trying to reach new clients, what level of advertising do you require? 

All systems go! 

Now it's time to launch the plan! Set yourself SMART goals for the year but also set daily, weekly and monthly tasks. Physically tick these off (it’s incredibly satisfying!) and constantly review and reassess them.
